Freight Forwarder

Job Description

We are partnering with a global freight forwarding company who are seeking an experienced Freight Forwarder professional to join their team based in Hull.


The main purpose of the Freight Forwarder will be to create quotes for clients, manage operational orders, and help to service and grow the company's sales through relationship-building and timely, attentive service.


Additionally, this person will collaborate closely with his or her peers in the other Departments, our other Group Offices, as well as our suppliers in the UK and continental Europe.


Responsibilities:

  • Keep in touch with major account clients and cultivate new connections as they appear
  • Making sure all support activities (such as permits, customs formalities, and documentation) are in place
  • Verify vehicles, containers, and other delivery methods arrive on time and are equipped with the necessary materials
  • Verify that the item(s) shipped as required have the proper documentation
  • Respond to requests for quotations, assistance with shipping documentation appropriate to the mode of transport and country of origin or destination, completion of quotations, and pursuing assigned key-account quotations to conclusion
  • Monitor progress, keep the customer informed, and resolve any issues that may arise
  • Confirm delivery made on time
  • Work within the guidelines of the Company Quality Manual
  • Raise invoices in accordance with client requirements; sign off and close files; resolve invoice queries relating to supplier costs; cover for other team members when they are absent; and perform general office duties
  • As a team member, the person will be expected to participate actively in the operational team and try to voice their opinions at any meetings they attend
  • Set priorities constantly to maximize time efficiency and ensure that the day's work is always planned
  • The position holder should be self-assured, organized, and able to operate under pressure while adhering to the organization's quality, health and safety, environmental, and customer care policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Incoterms (International Business)
  • Multi-skilled, training will be provided at all levels and in all areas.


Requirements:

  • Experience in shipping or transportation of at least two years is ideal but not required because thorough training will be given.
  • Capacity to operate under pressure and settle possible disputes
  • Recognize the various business cultures in the EU
