This individual will ideally have prior experience in commercial art crating, logistics companies, museums, or galleries and is seeking a challenging and rewarding role.
Please note that to be considered for this role, it is essential that you have fine art handling and packing experience working for a gallery, museum or auction house.
Please note this role is based in Melbourne, Australia and the client will provide relocation support to Melbourne and visa sponsorship.
Responsibilities:
- Build custom crates to precise design specifications, ensuring they meet quality and durability standards.
- Interpret and follow technical drawings and job sheets to execute projects with accuracy.
- Design and construct crate structures, identifying pressure points in artefacts and implementing protective solutions for secure transport.
- Operate woodworking machinery, such as saws, routers, and planers, to achieve precise and high-quality craftsmanship.
- Assemble and secure crate components, including backing materials, structural supports, and reinforcements.
- Select and utilise the appropriate tools and equipment to enhance efficiency and workflow in crate construction.
- Fit and fasten frames and structural elements, ensuring stability and maximum protection for transported items.
- At least 3 years’ experience in art crate construction and fit-out.
- Strong skills in carpentry, joinery, and framing, with a meticulous approach to precision work.
- Extensive experience in handling, installing, and packing artworks and museum objects.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and job specifications with accuracy.
- Proficiency in operating wood machining equipment, including saws, routers, and planers.
- Comprehensive knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in a manufacturing environment.
- Exceptional problem-solving skills and a keen eye for detail.
- Physically fit and able to meet the manual demands of the role.
- Clear police record to comply with security and visa requirements.
