As an Art Handler, you will be responsible for the safe handling, installation, and packing of artworks, with a particular focus on lighting and electrical installation.
This role requires a keen eye for detail, strong organisational skills, and a commitment to maintaining the integrity of valuable artworks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safely handle and transport artworks, including paintings, sculptures, and other delicate objects, ensuring proper care and protection throughout the handling process.
- Install artworks in various settings with a focus on fitting lighting and electrical components to enhance presentation.
- Collaborate closely with curators, designers, and other team members to execute installations according to specifications and design plans.
- Utilise appropriate tools and equipment to safely install lighting fixtures and electrical components in accordance with industry standards and safety protocols.
- Pack and crate artworks for transport, ensuring proper padding, wrapping, and securing to prevent damage during transit.
- Maintain accurate records of works, including condition reports, installation notes, and inventory documentation.
- Monitor and maintain inventory of art handling supplies, ensuring adequate stock levels for upcoming projects.
- Adhere to all safety guidelines and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and your colleagues.
- Support other teams with logistics and photography of works.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience as an Art Handler or similar role in the art industry.
- Driving license preferred.
- Strong knowledge of art handling best practices, including packing, installation, and transportation.
- Experience with electrical installation and lighting fittings, particularly in the context of art installations.
- Familiarity with a variety of packing materials and techniques for safe transportation of artworks.
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work closely with team members and external stakeholders.
- Physical stamina and dexterity to safely lift and move heavy objects.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures related to art handling and installation.
