Our client a fresh produce distribution company in Croydon are looking for an Assistant Production Manager to join their team.

The primary goal of this function is to help the production manager by handling day-to-day operations in the manager's absence.


Responsibilities;

  • Operate the production lines to make sure we are optimising our efficiencies while maintaining the quality of the fruit and our packing technique.
  • Regularly communicate with the Line Leaders about quality-related issues.
  • Complete the training of newly hired packers (production line, fruit selection, etc.);
  • Respond promptly to any concerns regarding fruit quality brought to the attention of the Production and Quality Managers as well as input from the production crew.
  • Counting every product that has been packed every day.
  • Coordinate the separation and management of various product kinds with the load controller and the accountable line leader, making sure that the quantity of items is accurate and includes High Risk products where applicable.
  • Notifying the quality manager of any product quality problems that are found.
  • Monitoring of any missing baskets and notify the production manager of any problems.
  • Reporting any personnel concerns to the production manager.
  • Taking care of returned or leftover goods.
  • Completing papers every day.
  • Overseeing tasks related to post-production.
  • Oversee the start, end, and break periods of the night personnel.
  • Conduct meetings for line leaders once a week.
  • Assisting the Production Manager with additional duties as needed by the company.


Skills Required;

  • It is imperative to pay close attention to details and be willing to pursue greatness.
  • At least 2 years of experience working in a role within fresh produce/food manufacturing.
  • 1-2 years of experience managing or supervising personnel.
  • A relentless approach to achieving ongoing progress.
  • Capacity to lead the production team in the absence of the production manager.
  • A meticulous, systematic individual with a "hands-on" mentality.
  • Effective verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Outstanding mathematical abilities.
  • Driven and full of energy.
  • Capable of operating a Ford Transit van or other comparable 2.5-ton van.
  • Capable of working late hours.


42 hours per week: Sunday 11pm – 8am, Monday 11pm – 8am, Tuesday 11pm – 7am, Wednesday 11pm – 7am, Thursday 11pm – 7am.
