This position will be focused on acquisitions, client development and supporting on the growth of the department! The ideal candidate will have a proven knowledge of Post-War and Contemporary art and business development within the art industry.
Responsibilities:
- Acquisition of post-war and contemporary artworks for auction
- Actively find and contact with potential buyers and sellers of works of art (in writing, by telephone, in person), building and managing a client portfolio
- Proactively lead sales discussions
- Providing estimates that are customised to meet client expectations in a thorough and timely manner
- Work closely with the department and management as needed
- Gain knowledge of what current clients have in their collections
- Actively promote contemporary art auctions and private sales
- Approach potential buyers and highlight opportunities in auctions
- Maintaining relationships with all categories of clients (collectors, dealers, companies, institutions)
- Attend gallery openings and art-related events to raise the profile of the company
- Act as an ambassador for the company
Requirements:
- Extensive professional experience within the art market and gallery / auction processes
- Strong knowledge of Post-War and Contemporary Art
- A readiness to pick up knowledge from others, strong organising abilities, and a track record of meeting deadlines
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
- Capacity to perform well under pressure
- The ability to operate both independently and collaboratively
- University degree or equivalent
- Confident using Microsoft Office software (Apple/Mac knowledge beneficial)
- Business-minded
- Flexibility in working hours and willingness to travel
