Freight Forwarding Business Development Manager

Our client, an international freight forwarder, is looking to appoint a high-performing Business Development Manager based in New York/New Jersey to accelerate growth across global air and ocean freight services. This role is particularly suited to experienced sales professionals with a strong focus on import trade lanes from the Far East and Southeast Asia, leveraging established networks and market expertise.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Sell international freight forwarding services, with a strong emphasis on import flows from the Far East and Southeast Asia (air and ocean)
  • Develop new business opportunities through targeted outreach, networking, and strategic prospecting
  • Lead commercial negotiations, including pricing, tenders, and margin optimisation to maximise profitability
  • Collaborate closely with operations and senior leadership to ensure seamless service delivery and high client satisfaction
  • Provide consultative, solution-led support to clients across complex global logistics requirements
  • Maintain a strong sales pipeline and consistently achieve or exceed revenue and gross profit targets

Key Requirements:
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in international air and ocean freight forwarding sales
  • Demonstrated success in developing business across Far East / Southeast Asia import markets
  • An active, transferable portfolio of client relationships is highly desirable
  • Strong commercial acumen with experience in pricing, quoting, and profitability management
  • Proficiency in CRM systems and sales pipeline management
  • Self-motivated, results-driven, and able to operate independently
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels
