FAQs

How to become a lawyer?

The path to becoming a lawyer in the UK requires both academic and practical training completion. The typical starting point for aspiring solicitors involves obtaining either an LLB qualifying law degree or a non-law degree followed by enrollment in the Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) conversion course. You then need to pass the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE) and complete two years of Qualifying Work Experience (QWE), which can be gained at a law firm, an in-house legal team, or other approved settings.

If you wish to become a barrister, the route involves completing a law degree or GDL, followed by the Bar Course, and then a one-year pupillage under the supervision of an experienced barrister.

Your career prospects will improve substantially through relevant experience gained from internships and paralegal roles and legal assistant positions and professional development and networking.

What is a compliance officer?

The compliance officer upholds organisational standards through the implementation of regulatory and statutory and ethical requirements in all operations. The UK requires this role to monitor GDPR compliance as well as FCA regulations and Anti-Money Laundering laws and sector-specific requirements.

Their role typically involves developing and enforcing compliance policies, conducting audits and risk assessments, delivering staff training, and reporting on regulatory adherence. The team investigates potential breaches and provides guidance for corrective action to help businesses prevent legal and financial risks as well as protect their reputation.

The assurance provided by compliance officers ensures organisations maintain responsible legal operations which embed good governance throughout their daily business activities.
