Responsibilities:
- Serves as a technical resource for designing flexible packaging and devices. This includes building bills of materials, estimating costs, and presenting proposals to customers that clearly outline design assumptions, risks, timelines, and pricing.
- Hands-on experience with plastic welding processes: heat, ultrasonic, and/or RF welding, across a range of flexible materials including PE, PP, and PVC.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct Design for Manufacturability assessments. Takes novel concepts and recommends material and geometric design changes that make production viable and efficient.
- Builds hand samples using prototyping equipment to walk customers through existing designs and proposed modifications
- Leads cross-functional project teams through the full product development lifecycle:
- Develops multiple design options with varying geometry and materials to address customer needs
- Partners with Operations to understand manufacturing capabilities and equipment capacity, keeping producibility front and center throughout design
- Develops design and development plans, including design inputs, outputs, and risk management documentation
- Supports design transfer of new products into production
- Plans and manages complex product development and scale-up activities
- Handles new product integration requirements including Design Contract Reviews, Product Master Drawings, Quality Planning Checklists, Web Layouts, and Lamination and Slitting Instructions
- Collaborates with process engineering on manufacturing validation and material specifications
