We are partnering with a leading customs brokerage who are seeking a Customs Manager to join their team in Cologne on a hybrid basis.

You will be responsible for leading a operations team focusing on customs and international trade.

Responsibilities;
  • Managing a department within the line of business involved in planning and implementation of operations policies
  • Planning goals for the organisation
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the procedures and organization of customs declarations and control processes
  • Responsible for overall direction of the department and accountable for service delivery of all activities
  • Maintain customs compliance
  • Oversee functional areas including classification, import and export operations and special trade programs
  • Strategically engage with both direct and indirect team members, handling internal and external issue escalations, providing mentorship, consulting, and delegating tasks.
  • Responsible for the optimal allocation of team members, ensuring the right mix of skills is applied to appropriate tasks.
  • Implement and maintain a Quality Operating System across the team, ensuring all processes are documented and functional, and lead corrective actions and root cause analyses as needed
  • Oversee resource management, including recruitment, performance discipline, talent reviews, and development of supervisory personnel.
  • Manages directs overall functional activities and monitors progress ensuring client satisfaction meets or exceeds customers’ requirements (i.e. Service Level Agreements or Key Performance Indicators).
  • Recommends and drives implementation of enhancements to improve effectiveness and efficiency of services and systems.
  • Works closely with Compliance department to ensure processes are in line with government compliance requirements.
  • Review, comprehend, and respond to client metrics on a monthly basis or more frequently as required.
  • Provide necessary information to support contract extensions, renewals, and bids for potential new clients (e.g., RFQ/RFP).
  • Collaborate with client service teams to manage and prioritize workloads effectively.

Skills Required;
  • 2-3 years experience as a team leader
  • Experience working in Global Trade Compliance/Logistics
  • Operations experience with exposure to customs and international trade
  • Excellent written and verbal German and English language
  • Ability to coach and develop staff
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Able to develop projects and objectives
