Senior Specialist, Jewellery Department

Job Description

Our client, a globally recognised international auction house is looking for a Senior Specialist to join their Jewellery Department in Hong Kong. 

The successful candidate will have specialist expertise relating to Jewellery, as well as a well-established portfolio and demonstrable business acumen.

The ability to travel is necessary.

Senior Specialist Key Duties:

  • Value and advise clients on the sale of their jewellery
  • Maintain close business relationships with collectors and individuals
  • Assist with maintaining and developing the database of buyers and sellers
  • Work closely with the Head of Department on strategies to generate new business opportunities
  • Assist with exhibition events, in Hong Kong and wider Asian regions as required
  • Carry out appraisals for clients, both inhouse and traveling offsite
  • Assist in the full cataloging process, this includes assisting with product photography, liaising with printers, and ensuring that the catalogue printing deadlines are achieved
  • Participate in speaking engagements and events on behalf of the client to the Jewellery community
  • Advise prospective clients of the Auction processes and provide detailed information where relevant
  • Maintain awareness of competitor strategies and market trend
  • Work closely with the departments administrators to ensure contracts are up to date, and follow the process from consignment to final payment

Skills and Experience:

  • Graduate gemmologist qualification is essential
  • Previous valuation experience
  • Proactive and Pragmatic view to problem solving
  • Team player, who enjoys supporting your team
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills, with high attention to detail
