Our client, an international contemporary art gallery, is seeking a Senior Registrar to join its London team on a fixed-term contract.
This position would suit an experienced registrar with strong knowledge of international art logistics and compliance, looking to step into a leadership role overseeing a small team and complex global shipments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Managing and mentoring a team of registrars, supporting training and development.
- Overseeing all incoming and outgoing artwork shipments to private and institutional clients worldwide.
- Acting as senior point of contact for complex logistics, customs and tax queries.
- Ensuring artworks are dispatched promptly following sale and monitoring works held in storage.
- Liaising with shipping agents, warehouses and internal departments to coordinate deliveries.
- Advising colleagues on international import/export procedures, VAT and documentation requirements.
- Working closely with sales and accounts teams on post-sale processes and client communications.
- Maintaining accurate records and ensuring clear audit trails across shipments and inventory movement.
- Supporting operational planning for art fairs and consignments where required.
Key Requirements:
- Previous experience in a senior registrar or comparable role within a gallery, auction house or institution.
- Strong understanding of international shipping procedures, customs documentation and tax considerations.
- Experience supervising or mentoring team members.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritise workload effectively.
- High attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem solving.
- Interest in contemporary art.
