Alchemy is proud to be partnering with a renowned fine art shipping company in Sydney who are seeking a skilled and experienced Crating Manager to join their production team.

Note you will be required to relocate to Australia, visas will be provided and relocation support. 

This is a unique opportunity to work both on-site and in the field on complex, high-value projects, handling and protecting some of the world’s most precious artworks and museum objects.

As Crating Manager, you will play a critical role in designing, constructing, and overseeing museum-standard crates and packing solutions to ensure the safe transport and installation of fine art and artefacts.
You will combine technical craftsmanship, leadership skills, and client-facing expertise to deliver exceptional results.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design crate structures, identify pressure points in artefacts, and create tailored protection solutions
  • Ensure all wood structures meet design specifications, quality standards, and durability requirements
  • Read and interpret technical drawings and job sheets
  • Operate woodworking machinery (saws, routers, planers) with precision
  • Adjust machine settings for cutting, planning, shaping, turning, and sanding
  • Repair and refurbish wooden products (sanding, polishing, varnishing, staining)
  • Mount backing materials and internal supports for secure crating
  • Determine tools, machinery, and production sequence for efficient crate construction
  • Construct museum-standard crates, interior fit-outs, and packing solutions
  • Install artworks and objects on-site
  • Manage the production workshop and lead the team
  • Oversee productivity, workflow, and output quality
  • Complete pricing estimates and manage project costs and expenses
  • Order materials in a timely manner
  • Engage casual labour during peak workloads
  • Provide and maintain a safe working environment
  • Ensure maintenance of all equipment
  • Enforce compliance with safe work practices

About You:
  • Proven experience in crate construction, woodworking and fine art logistics
  • Strong understanding of museum-standard packing and conservation principles
  • Experience handling fine art and/or museum objects
  • Workshop management or team leadership experience
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and manage complex builds
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Valid driver’s licence (preferred)
