Customs Supervisor

Job Description

An exciting opening has become available for a Customs Supervisor to join a freight forwarder in their office in Birmingham.

This position would suit a professional that is currently a Customs Team Leader/Supervisor or a Customs Clerk/Declarant looking to take the next step. 


  • Oversee a team of 2-3 Customs professionals
  • Prepare customs entries for imports and exports, guaranteeing compliance and a high degree of accuracy
  • Ensure a screening procedure is used to check client paperwork, such as packing lists and invoicing
  • Process refunds via HMRC
  • Ensuring the import and export of completed goods and parts, and making sure the procedure is economical and effective
  • Ensuring that all paperwork related to customs approval is reviewed and accurately completed
  • Strict adherence to customs and transportation laws internationally
  • Arrange global transport projects
  • Confirm that local customs administrations are given priority

Skills Required:

  • At least 1 years experience in a leadership position or 3-5 years experience in freight forwarding
  • Customs experience and familiarity with customs regulations required
  • Minimum of three to five years in the sector or one year in a senior position
  • Strong understanding of trade tariffs required
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience using CHIEF and CDS systems preferred
  • Strong understanding of Destin8 / CNS
  • Experience processing documents including COO, EUR1 on ICERT
  • Be proactive and have effective organisational abilities
  • Personal drive to grow and learn
  • Good teamwork and the capacity for collaboration
  • Strong IT skills including Excel
